Lack of Diversity (How It’s Killing the Literary Arts)

The “diversity” issue I’m referring to exist within local writing communities themselves—the pocketed groups of writers or aspiring writers in our own neighborhoods and how they engage with, interact with, collaborate with, and artistically feed one another.  Amongst many of those regional groups, across the nation, there is a severe lack of diversity in both ethnicity and subject matter. It’s an issue that, in itself, is DESTROYING poetry and the integrity of the literary arts themselves.
I’m ecstatic this topic had the opportunity to be examined and discussed in the meeting. I’m, also, thrilled I had the privilege to have an intelligent discussion with someone not of color, how had extensive insight and perspective on the issue herself.  Please feel free to listen to and comment on what was discussed. 🙂
