Loving Away Systematic Racism Doesn’t Work (PJ)

🖤Dear T.S.P. Family,

🖤I made this presentation in response to a comment that was left in regards to an article I posted entitled, “Black People, It’s Time To Get Armed.” (https://goo.gl/8o3uEK), which expressed the need for black people to take advantage of their right to bear arms for protection, in these times of increasing racially motivated violence.

🖤As has been the case historically and in the modern day, black people have been encouraged by other groups to seek peace and understanding with those who desire to mistreat them, to turn the other cheek when they’ve been systematically harmed over the span of centuries, and to not take a proactive stance in anticipating and expecting that violence will be done to them or their loved ones while living under a state of systematic racism.

🖤Often, I hear individuals express, if we could just all learn to love one another, get along somehow show those who desire to brutalize black people that African Americans are just as human as white people, there is some way to “love” away the system of white supremacy.

🖤My question to that sentiment: What is love? Should black people love Trump when he continuously enacts policies to the detriment of the black community? Should we love private prison investors who are the drivers and movers of black males being disproportionately locked over any other demographic over, in many cases, non-violent offenders? Should we love the top percentile of white families who hoard the majority of this countries wealth–wealth that was built up through free African chattel slavery and Jim Crow which didn’t allow African Americans effectively compete economically?

🖤What’s love got to do with it?

🖤To me, as I state in the podcast, “love” equals “justice.” Are people ready to advocate and put in the kind of work it takes to bring about that justice?

🖤I argue that, while there are individuals (exceptionally few) who are willing to unlearn an unjust and unfair ideology and who want to understand how they’ve been complicit in it, who genuinely want to fully understand how the system functions, and who want to put it in the work required towards challenging systematic racism, there are those who have never been and who will never be interested in hearing out the other side and who have committed themselves in maintaining systematic mistreatment.

For the latter group of people, we need to study how they move, expect them to try to attempt to harm us, whether by calling the cops on us or random attacking us and to prepare to protect ourselves and the ones we love.
